Job Description
The Medical Technologist carries out diagnostic tests within laboratory quality and safety systems, handles approved samples and instruments, and contributes to timely services for clinicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Check specimens for suitability, prepare samples and perform tests under established procedures.
- Operate and maintain analysers, follow quality-control and infection-prevention protocols.
- Record laboratory findings in the laboratory information system and report discrepancies.
- Help organise laboratory workflow, supplies and accreditation-readiness activities.
- Prioritise urgent test requests, validate sample acceptability and escalate critical or abnormal results using approved reporting procedures.
- Perform analyser calibration, preventive maintenance, quality control and accurate documentation in the laboratory information system.
- Maintain laboratory inventory, comply with accreditation rules and safely handle clinical specimens and discarded materials.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, medical laboratory technology or related discipline.
- Three to five years of related experience, including at least one year in a similar position.
- Practical experience with laboratory equipment and relevant licensing eligibility.
