Google is hiring a Senior Research Scientist in Foundational AI in Health in Mountain View. The role develops multimodal foundation models and AI research for health technology, including wearables, mobile platforms, physiological signals and electronic health records.

2. Job Description

The scientist works at the intersection of foundational AI and health research, developing model architectures, experiments and research infrastructure and collaborating with researchers, engineers, product teams, clinical teams and the Gemini team to translate research into consumer-facing health products.

3. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct AI research and development in health technology, with emphasis on wearables and mobile platforms for health tracking and prediction.
• Design multimodal AI model architectures and large-scale tests while building and improving research infrastructure, dataset ingestion and evaluation systems.
• Communicate research findings to varied audiences and publish results in academic journals.
• Identify future research areas with collaborators and contribute to long-term research strategy.
• Collaborate with engineering, product and clinical partners to integrate research developments into consumer-facing products.

4. Requirements & Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or a related quantitative field.
• 2 years of experience with modern machine-learning frameworks such as JAX, PyTorch or TensorFlow and distributed training on accelerators.
• At least one scientific-publication submission to conferences, journals or public repositories.

5. Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in machine-learning research, foundation models, Generative AI and Python coding in a team environment.
• Experience modeling longitudinal or multimodal real-world data such as wearable-sensor data, physiological signals, health records or imaging.
• Experience building data pipelines and experimentation systems for large heterogeneous datasets.
• Experience designing evaluations, metrics and controlled ablations that produce reproducible research results.
